Foi numa guitarra de uma corda só que Artur Menezes começou a tocar e pegou gosto pelo instrumento. Hoje é considerado por alguns o Stevie Ray Vaughan cearense, tocando em várias bandas de blues e agora com um trabalho solo onde pode mostrar suas composições.

Aprendeu a tocar violão e com 12 anos foi se dedicar à guitarra. Queria tocar rock por influência do irmão mais velho. Da mãe e cantora Lucinha Menezes vem à influência da MPB. Só veio se interessar pelo blues depois de um tempo. Sentia falta das distorções e do peso do velho rock’n roll, mas acabou se rendendo aos encantos do blues.

Começou a tocar profissionalmente aos 14 anos na Blues Label, junto com o irmão que tocava baixo. Hoje, o guitarrista toca nas bandas Artur Menezes & Os Caras (seu projeto solo), Blues Label, De Blues em Quando, Zeppelin Blues e ExperiHendrix Trio. Já participou de vários festivais como o BNB Rock & Cordel, o Dragão Jazz, o famoso festival de Jazz e Blues de Guaramiranga, onde tocou nas cinco últimas edições, entre outros.

Em 2006 e 2007 foi para Chicago com o pretexto de estudar inglês. Mas o verdadeiro intuito do guitarrista era ver de perto os grandes nomes do blues e aprender. Foi o que fez. Passou a freqüentar diariamente bares tradicionais próximos do albergue onde morava, o Kingston Mines e o B.L.U.E.S, e diz que aprendeu muito vendo os outros tocarem. Seu inglês não ajudava muito, mas foi com a música que conseguiu fazer amizades e mostrar seu talento. Logo no primeiro dia pediu para tocar. “Sou do Brasil. Toco guitarra!”. O público gostou e a partir daí as portas se abriram. Ele passou a ser convidado para se apresentar com várias bandas e teve a oportunidade de subir ao palco com John Primer, Charlie Love e ainda participar de uma banda de blues local chamada The Shakes.

Suas maiores influências vêm, dentre os grandes nomes do blues, dos guitarristas Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, Buddy Guy. Mas quando pedimos que escolhesse um em especial, Artur Menezes cita Albert King, influente guitarrista e cantor americano de blues da década de 60.

O guitarrista, juntamente com Leonardo Vasconcelos e Roberto Lessa da banda Blues Label, está organizando um evento de blues que acontecerá todo sábado no Teatro das Marias. A Casa do Blues surgiu da vontade de dar mais espaço ao estilo em Fortaleza e pretende trazer grandes bandas e convidados especiais.

É por conhecer o Arthur desde a época de colégio e das quadras de basquete que posso enfatizar sua humildade, seu carisma e seu talento musical. O Arthur atraiu toda a galera com que eu estava, alguns anos atrás em Guará, com riff de guitarra para além de um zeppeliano. Mas foi trocando algumas palavras depois do show que realmente vi o profissional que aquele basqueteiro se transformara: o real sucesso não se faz só com talento, é necessário humildade. Por isso, vejo que o Arthur se transforma, a cada dia e a cada solo, em um autêntico astro. Merecidamente.
